Inspiration is a funny thing--rarely a straight or obvious line. Wants 2 Dance started out as a hibiscus that never fully opened though its colors were spectacular. While painting it I thought about how hard it is for so many of us to be brave about our own lives. And how much better it would be to unfurl ourselves and to fulfill our dreams. The lines and colors are already in us if only we'll let them out. And that thought turned a simple flower into this child who just wants to dance.
When I was learning to read, my grandmother gave me her own classic children's book. I loved those Flower Children with their flower wardrobes and they're still in my collection. How easily time shifts, lifting and tilting the hibiscus into a party dress that needs a child to twirl it. That youngster is everyone and anyone in the world who still wants to dance! The evidence of the flowers is still there. Do you see it? Bringing joy and movement to a child's room or your own!
My process for this painting began in multiple photos and digitally painted layers combined and manipulated, then printed with pigmented ink on fine art paper.
