Simpler is often better. The Michigan Lily is a wild thing that nature grows with pampered hot-house manners! Often misnamed a Turks' Cap, it grows tall in wild prairies and damp meadows of the Midwest. You’ll also find them along roadside edges and in my garden. They live a very long time without fading in a vase as voluptuous, end of summer wild flowers. They are the perfect flower for their tidy ways, growing and spreading without assistance, no weeding required! What attracted my attention was the topmost flower struggling to unfurl its last two petals. I’d noticed it the day before but was preparing dinner and before long it was dark. The next day it still hadn’t managed to unstick itself and there was a second chance to make sketches for a watercolor painting.
