Hiking the shoreline toward McGulpin Rock is hazardous in cold, wet, high wind conditions but worth every step for those who seek history and beauty. These large stones are not McGulpin Rock; between here and the Mighty Mac Bridge in the far background sits a bus-sized rock just offshore that served as a navigational aid to early French explorers in the Straits of Mackinac. It's bigger and more impressive than Plymouth Rock but the victors write the history. I carried my heaviest tripod to insure tack sharp images against the wind and my longest lens to bring the Mackinac Bridge closer. The wild weather may have been challenging but it was also my opportunity for the magnificent clouds in many colors stirred into the sky. There is second version of this shot in B+W seen below and sold here
