Norwegian sculptor Per Ung made the emotion of longing out of bronze in his Fisherman’s Wife at the entrance to Svolvaer’s harbor in the Lofoten Islands. She stands 4.5 meters / 14 feet 9 inches alternately hopeful and fearful as she awaits the return of her husband from Norway’s coastal seas. I photographed the Fiskekona from the deck of the coastal ship hurtigruten Polarlys in 2010 and have only just processed it. That day was stormy but the sky cleared as I passed.
